Hello my lovelies,

I recently had the opportunity to do a stylized shoot for my younger sister. If you ever get a chance to have a photo shoot where you get all dolled up, I highly recommend it. The memories and photos that follow are so much fun--made even better if you can get a group of your girlfriends involved!

All of the clothing pieces were courtesy of the musical she was participating in, but similar items could be found in vintage stores, thrift shops, and even older relatives’ closets. The looks were very, very chic, and I understand why wealthy people used to wear as much bling and fur as possible. It just seems to show a more luxe side of life. In the words of Ken Downing, “She doesn’t wear fur because she is cold; she wears fur because she is GLAMOROUS.” Everything about the character she was portraying screamed glamour.

While shoulder pads, beaded gowns, and headdresses aren’t very practical in “real life,” these outfits can be re-created in similar ways. If you were going to a party, you could don a green beaded dress without the large shoulder pads and awkward length. This emerald green lace dress from Nordstrom mimics the beading, with a much more modern silhouette. Choose one that has longer sleeves and there’s no need for gloves. =)

There is a lot of controversy regarding furs and other animal clothing pieces. If you want to bring in the glamour of fur, choose a piece that is clearly labeled faux-fur. Forever 21 has a few items that are obviously man-made so there is no confusion. This scarf adds a lot to a holiday party outfit, or you can add a bomber jacket to improve a casual outfit.

Head and hair jewelry is a fun trend that gives you a little sparkle. Choose one that has Art-Deco vibes and you’re ready for a Great Gatsby party or a music festival. Jewelry/Accessory stores like Charming Charlies, Icing and Etsy will have the best selection.

Silky dresses are making a comeback so this look is easily replicated. Remove the sleeves, shorten the hemline and add a pair of strappy heels. Your look will be modern, but also sophisticated. This magenta dress from F21 is so simple, yet makes you look absolutely stunning. It also comes in black and olive if bright colors aren't your style.

Add a pair of statement earrings like these from Bauble Bar, or go to a local thrift store or garage sale and pick up a pair of the “real deal” (just make sure you sanitize them before wearing—no one wants to get sore ears).

This shoot was so much fun and I'm looking forward to re-creating my own "glamour" looks.

Xoxo,

Heidi Joy
