Hello my lovelies,
Sometimes you find the CUTEST dress or pair of pants at the thrift store, but once you see the size of the item, you frown and put it back on the rack. Other times, you’ll try something on only to find it gapes in the wrong places or is so long you feel like you’re going to trip. Once again, back to the racks it goes.
There are several ways to make those pieces fit your style and body!
First, if a dress or tunic is too long, you can knot the bottom. This is an up and coming trend that is super easy and super cute! Cotton items are the easiest to knot, but experimenting with how different fabrics stay knotted can’t hurt either. =)

Don’t be afraid of altering an item! Even if you’re afraid of sewing machines (like me :P ), there are people who’s entire jobs are altering clothing, from ill-fitting suit jackets to floor-sweeping skirts. If the price of a seamstress makes you grimace, remember you did just buy that piece of clothing for almost nothing…and clothes that fit increase both your happiness and other’s first impressions of you.
If the fix is something simple like re-hemming or adding some buttons, either do it yourself or see if you have any work mates or relatives (Mooooooom!) who would be willing to help you out. Offer them dinner or a coffee date for their time and you kill two birds with one stone! Socialization AND new (to you) clothes!
While some items can easily be fixed, stay away from velvet, super stretchy materials, or beaded items. They’re much harder to alter and can be such a hassle you never end up wearing the item anyway. Unworn items = less closet space for things you love. Also, if an item would require you to take in more fabric than you would be leaving, you might want to leave it for someone else to enjoy.

These thrifted green Old Navy RockStar skinny jeans were originally three sizes too big. I loved the price ($6.50) though, so I couldn’t resist adding them to my cart! I knew I could alter them so they would fit me perfectly! The primary green color and stretchy denim-esque fabric was perfect for the classroom (check your office or school’s policy on jeans in the workplace before buying all the colored pants!). Old Navy offers these pants every season, so you can currently buy them in grapefruit, lilac or khaki green. They're available in regular, tall and petite lengths.

A light chambray St. Johns Bay tunic (thrifted for 40 pesos/$1) goes great with bright colors and the longer length covers up enough you can bend over safely! :P Rolled up sleeves and a belt add visual details.

Since school isn’t in session yet and my days are filled with errands and projects, I could wear heels with these jeans! I’m finding so many uses for these Payless wedges (plus they’re on clearance now for only $15). Patterned shoes are always more fun.

Enjoy the sunny days of summer! Make sure to stock up on fashion goodies for the upcoming school year!
Xoxo
